Apr 10, 2018 · My smart guides do (did) not work neither: I think that Illustrator lied, when telling me that smart guides where enabled (they where in the View->Smart Guides menu, check mark showing up). What I did was to disable Smart Guides with CTRL-U (and that really did enable the guides, check mark still showing up). It's worth trying that.
